ELCHS Jaguars Sign with Walsh
University
ELCHS celebrated its first two students to receive full
football scholarships. On February 4, 2009, National Letter of
Intent Day, East Lee County High School seniors Kendoll Gibson and
Ryan Gambill had a symbolic historic signing ceremony. Due to an
unexpected delay, both students signed their official letters of
intent with Walsh University a few days later.
Walsh University
from North Canton, Ohio, offered Ryan Gambill and Kendoll Gibson, a
full four year football scholarship that includes tuition, books,
room and board. Both athletes are extremely excited about the
tremendous opportunity they worked so hard to earn. According to
both athletes, several universities were scouting them, but both
opted for Walsh University because of the impressive scholarship
package. Although Walsh is quite a distance from Southwest Florida,
both Ryan and Gambill are exited about the prospect of beginning a
new chapter in their lives, even though it means leaving behind
family and friends which will be greatly missed.
When asked what
advice they would give to underclassmen Kendoll Gibson says, “I
would tell them no matter what sport it is, that they can’t just
like the game, they have to LOVE it. The love for the game will take
them far, and they have to get the grades too.” Ryan Gambill agrees,
“Just work hard in the weight room and on the field. But most
important, keep your GRADES up. You can’t go anywhere without the
grades, no matter how good you are.”
No matter how they
got here, the historic event is just the start for the two student
athletes, as well as the beginning of something extraordinary for
the East Lee. Fellow students, teachers and staff are extremely
proud and wish them the best. Kendoll Gibson adds, “I think it’s
going to be a great experience for me. I can’t wait to go. I owe all
my success to God, my family, Coach Jones, and to all the other
coaches and teachers who have helped me through my high school
career. I love East Lee County, I will never forget this experience.
If I could do it all over, I wouldn’t change one thing.”
