East Lee County Parents/Guardians,
The students and staff will
participate in a series of Ready to Work career readiness testing
initiated and
funded by the State of Florida. The
testing will take place at school on Wednesday, February 18th;
Thursday,
February 19th and Friday, February
20th. The tests are scheduled during assembly time and will not
interfere
with your student’s regularly
scheduled classes.
Your student will take written
placement tests in three skill areas: Applied Mathematics,
Reading for
Information and Locating
Information. Research shows that these tests measure the
fundamental
“workplace” math, reading and
problem-solving skills required for more than 85 percent of all jobs
today.
The following paragraphs will explain
the Florida Ready to Work program.
Florida Ready to Work

Florida Ready to Work is an
innovative, new workforce education and economic development
program. The
centerpiece of the program is the
Florida Ready to Work credential, a career readiness certificate –
signed by
Governor Charlie Crist – that
certifies that a Florida student/jobseeker has the fundamental job
skills
necessary to succeed in today’s
rapidly changing and competitive economy.
Florida Ready to Work is sponsored
and funded by the State of Florida. The program is administered by
the
Florida Department of Education in
partnership with the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.
The program is being implemented by
regional workforce boards, community colleges, high schools, and
other
workforce development and education
partners statewide.
These tests will not affect your
student’s grade or graduation requirements. We highly recommend that
your
student attempt to perform their best
during these tests as Ready to Work credentials and career
readiness
certificates will be presented to
students meeting or exceeding industry standards. The score results
will be
shared by the counselors with your
student. This is an outstanding assessment tool that will help us
better
prepare your student for his high
school career and beyond.
Thank you for encouraging your
student to always participate in school and strive for academic
success as we
prepare for the challenges of
tomorrow – today.
Mr. Ronald Davis
