Firefighting Academy
The Firefighting Academy at East Lee County High School is designed for individuals who are interested in entering the public safety fields of either firefighting or emergency medical services (EMS). Recruits who successfully meet the requirements of the academy and the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training will be eligible to sit for the State of Florida Firefighter I exam. The recruits will be given the ability to participate in activities such as fire prevention, public safety, enforcement of firefighting safety codes and standards, firefighting tactics, rescue techniques and emergency medical procedures.
The ELCHS Firefighting Academy concentrate on developing its recruits’ firefighting skills, positive work habits, knowledge of the fire service traditions, as well as providing emphasis on integrity, discipline, ethical character, as well as having pride in the program and showing respect for their peers, their community, and themselves.
Course Progression
Fire Fighting 1 - This course is to provide an introduction to a career of Fire Science that can lead to employment, after further instruction, to a career as a firefighter or other disciplines in the Fire Science realm.
Fire Fighting 2 - This course is to provide an introduction to a career of Fire Science that can lead to employment, after further instruction, to a career as a firefighter or other disciplines in the Fire Science realm.
